Bank of England (BoE)
The central bank of the United Kingdom, founded in 1694, responsible for setting monetary policy through its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), issuing banknotes in England and Wales, and overseeing financial stability. The BoE targets a 2% inflation rate and adjusts its Bank Rate accordingly, which directly influences mortgage rates, savings rates, and the value of the British pound. In addition to interest rate decisions, the BoE uses tools such as quantitative easing and forward guidance to manage economic conditions.
Example
“The British pound surged after the Bank of England voted 7-2 to raise the Bank Rate by 25 basis points, signaling a more hawkish stance on inflation than markets had expected.”
