Currency Code
A currency code is a three-letter abbreviation defined by the ISO 4217 standard that uniquely identifies a currency in international transactions and forex markets. The first two letters typically represent the country, and the third represents the currency name (e.g., USD for United States Dollar). These standardized codes are essential for eliminating ambiguity in global financial transactions and are used universally across trading platforms, banking systems, and international commerce.
Example
“Under the ISO 4217 standard, the currency code for the Japanese yen is JPY, where JP represents Japan and Y represents the yen, making it instantly identifiable on forex trading platforms worldwide.”
