Employment Cost Index
The Employment Cost Index (ECI) is a quarterly measure of the change in the cost of labor in the United States, including wages and benefits. It is closely watched by the Federal Reserve as an indicator of inflationary pressure in the labor market.
Example
“The ECI rose 1.2% in Q3, higher than the 0.9% estimate, signaling persistent wage inflation and reinforcing expectations that the Fed would keep interest rates elevated longer.”
