European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR)

The European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) is EU legislation governing over-the-counter derivatives, central counterparties, and trade repositories. It aims to reduce systemic risk in derivatives markets by mandating clearing, reporting, and risk mitigation standards.

Example

Under EMIR requirements, the hedge fund had to report all of its OTC interest rate swaps to a registered trade repository and clear standardized contracts through a central counterparty.
