Large-Scale Asset Purchases (LSAPs)

A monetary policy tool, commonly known as quantitative easing, where a central bank buys large quantities of government bonds and other securities to inject money into the economy and lower long-term interest rates.

Example

During the 2020 pandemic, the Federal Reserve launched massive LSAPs, purchasing over $80 billion in Treasury securities per month to keep interest rates low and stimulate the economy.
