Maintenance Margin

The minimum amount of equity that must be maintained in a margin account after a trade is made. If the account falls below this level, a margin call is triggered requiring the trader to deposit additional funds.

Example

A trader opened a leveraged position worth $50,000 with a 25% maintenance margin — when the account equity dropped below $12,500, the broker issued a margin call.
