P/E Ratio

Price-to-Earnings ratio — the ratio of a company's current stock price to its earnings per share. A higher P/E suggests investors expect higher future growth.

Example

If a stock trades at $100 and its earnings per share is $5, the P/E ratio is 20, meaning investors are willing to pay $20 for every $1 of earnings.
