Spread Betting

A form of derivatives trading where participants bet on the direction of price movements without owning the underlying asset. Profits and losses are determined by how far the price moves from the opening spread.

Example

He placed a spread bet of £10 per point on the FTSE 100 going up, so when the index rose 50 points he earned £500 tax-free under UK regulations.
