University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment (MCSI)

A monthly survey-based measure of U.S. consumer confidence compiled by the University of Michigan, based on telephone interviews assessing personal finances, business conditions, and buying conditions. The index includes both a current conditions component and an expectations component, providing insight into consumer spending intentions. Markets react to both the headline figure and the inflation expectations readings embedded within the survey.
