Whale

A market participant who holds an extremely large amount of a particular cryptocurrency, stock, or other financial asset, giving them the potential to significantly influence market prices through their trading activity. In cryptocurrency markets, whale movements are closely tracked through on-chain analysis tools that monitor large wallet transfers, as the movement of substantial holdings to or from exchanges can signal impending buying or selling pressure. The term is used across all financial markets but is most prevalent in crypto culture.

Example

On-chain data revealed that a whale transferred 15,000 BTC from cold storage to a centralised exchange, sparking fears of a large sell-off and pushing the price down 3%.
