Xenocurrency

A currency that trades or is deposited in financial markets outside its country of origin, essentially functioning as a foreign currency in international banking and finance. The term is derived from the Greek prefix 'xeno' meaning foreign or strange. Eurodollars (U.S. dollars held in banks outside the United States) are the most prominent example of xenocurrency, and these offshore deposits play a vital role in international trade finance, lending, and global monetary flows.

Example

The multinational corporation held $50 million in xenocurrency deposits at a London bank, using the offshore dollar funds to settle international trade invoices without repatriating funds.
