Offsetting Transaction
A trade that closes or reduces the risk of an existing position. For example, selling a futures contract you previously bought to neutralize market exposure.
Example
“The trader closed his long crude oil futures position by entering an offsetting transaction — selling the same contract — to lock in a $2,000 profit.”
