A weekly measure of same-store sales growth at major U.S. retail chains, published by Redbook Research. It provides an early indication of consumer spending trends and retail sector health.

Example

When the Redbook Index showed year-over-year same-store sales growth of 6.2%, retail stocks rallied as traders interpreted it as a sign of strong consumer demand heading into the holiday season.
