Market Maker
A broker or firm that provides liquidity by quoting both bid and ask prices. They profit from the spread and take the other side of client trades.
Example
“Citadel Securities acts as a market maker on the NYSE, continuously quoting bid and ask prices for thousands of stocks and profiting from the spread between them.”
