Bricked Funds

Bricked funds are cryptocurrency assets that become permanently stuck inside a smart contract due to a programming bug or vulnerability, making them impossible to recover. Once bricked, these funds are effectively lost forever since no one can access or move them. This risk underscores the importance of thorough smart contract audits performed by reputable security firms before protocols launch. Several high-profile DeFi incidents have resulted in millions of dollars worth of bricked funds.

Example

A bug in the DeFi protocol's smart contract bricked $30 million in user funds, which were permanently locked and unrecoverable despite the development team's efforts.
