Electronic Market Maker
An electronic market maker is a firm or algorithm that continuously provides buy and sell quotes on electronic trading platforms. They profit from the bid-ask spread while providing liquidity and tighter pricing to the market.
Example
“Citadel Securities acts as an electronic market maker on major exchanges, quoting bid and ask prices for thousands of stocks simultaneously and earning fractions of a cent per share on the spread.”
