Steps
- 1Buy directly from the manufacturer (Ledger or Trezor) — never buy secondhand or from Amazon resellers.
- 2Unbox and verify the device is factory sealed with no signs of tampering.
- 3Install the companion app (Ledger Live or Trezor Suite) on your computer.
- 4Set a strong PIN (6-8 digits) on the device itself.
- 5Write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the included paper card — NEVER digitally.
- 6Verify the recovery phrase by confirming selected words when prompted.
- 7Install the apps for the chains you need (Ethereum, Bitcoin, etc.) via the companion software.
Pro Tips
- Store the seed phrase in a fireproof location, ideally a metal backup plate.
- Never enter your seed phrase on any website — legitimate services never ask for it.
- Update firmware regularly via the official companion app for security patches.
