Bank of Canada (BoC)

Canada's central bank, established in 1934, responsible for formulating monetary policy, issuing Canadian banknotes, and promoting the safety and soundness of the country's financial system. The BoC sets the overnight lending rate target, which serves as the benchmark for borrowing costs throughout the Canadian economy, and publishes regular Monetary Policy Reports closely monitored by forex traders. Interest rate decisions and forward guidance from the BoC significantly influence the value of the Canadian dollar and Canadian bond yields.

Example

The Canadian dollar strengthened 0.8% against the US dollar after the Bank of Canada unexpectedly raised its overnight rate by 25 basis points, citing persistent inflationary pressures.
