Pain Trade
A market move that causes the maximum amount of financial pain to the largest number of traders. It often occurs in the direction that most market participants are not positioned for.
Example
“When the majority of traders are positioned short, the pain trade would be a sharp rally that forces short-sellers to cover at a loss, pushing prices even higher.”
