Volume
The total number of shares, contracts, or units of a financial instrument traded during a given period. Volume is one of the most fundamental market indicators, providing insight into the strength of price movements and the level of market participation. High volume during a price advance confirms strong buying interest, while high volume during a decline confirms strong selling pressure. Low-volume moves are generally considered less reliable.
Example
“The breakout above the $50 resistance level was confirmed by volume that was three times the 20-day average, indicating strong conviction among buyers.”
