Value Area
The price range within which a specified percentage of trading volume (typically 70%) occurred during a given time period, as displayed on a volume profile chart. The value area represents the zone of fair value where the majority of market participants agreed to transact, with prices above or below this range considered extended or unfair. Key levels within the value area include the Value Area High (VAH), Value Area Low (VAL), and the Point of Control (POC).
Example
“The trader noted that price opened inside yesterday's value area, suggesting a balanced market with no directional conviction in the early session.”
